Sadananda Gowda Inaugurates Mobile Blood-collection Unit

Chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda inaugurated a mobile blood-collection unit on the occasion of World Aids Day on Thursday. He said the government was looking forward to the time when no new HIV-related infections would take place. The blood collection unit is a Volvo bus and has been donated by National Aids Control Organisation. The bus has the capacity to collect 200 blood units at a time. Next to the donation ‘room’ in the bus, there is a small chamber for the donors to relax and consume food after donating blood. Many young women, students, members of NGOs, community-based organisations of sex workers, sexual minorities and people living with HIV were present at the inauguration ceremony, held near Vidhana Soudha. Also, a few stalls were erected and condoms were distributed on the occasion.
