"Blood cannot be harvested it can only be donated"

     Donating blood is a wonderful thing to do. It saves lives and helps people who need blood transfusions due to surgery, accident, and other tragic events. You can donate blood once in every two months and it can make a huge difference in some one’s life

Precautions for donating blood

    • Age - 18 to 55 years.
    • Weight - Not less than 45 kilograms..
    • Body Temperature:  Below 37.5 °C.
    • Pulse: 60 to 100 beats/minute.
    • Blood Pressure: Systolic: 110-140mm Hg.
    • Donation Frequency - 12 weeks for males and 16 weeks for females.
    • Hemoglobin level: Not below 12.5 g/dl.
    • You are healthy and have not suffered from malaria, typhoid or other transmissible disease in the recent.
    • You will not be eligible to donate blood if you have consumed alcohol 48 hours before donation.
    • Please avoid smoking on the day before donating. You can smoke 3 hours after donation.

How to Prepare Yourself before Donating Blood

    • Drink plenty of water the night and morning before you donate.
    • Take a deep breath before the needle goes in or pinch yourself to create a distraction.
      Relax.
    • Do not take fatty foods for 24 hours before you donate.
    • Please have a good meal at least three (3) hours before donating blood.
    • Remember to bring your donor card (If you have one) driver's license or two other forms of ID.

During Your Donation

    • Relax, listen to music, talk to other donors or read during the donation process.
    • Take the time to enjoy a snack and a drink in the refreshments area immediately after donating.

Donate blood at least once a year
